Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Asia’s largest IT services company, in 1999 launched an educational programme titled TCS IT Wiz to reach out to school students studying between class 8-12th. The aim was to build awareness, hone IT skills and to encourage students to get excited about IT besides providing a window to the world of Information Technology. The focus was also to drive the importance of technology in student’s life and equip them to compete globally.
Today TCS IT Wiz has become a national benchmark in the inter-school quizzing circuit for the level of research, the intensity with which teams compete and the sheer participation number it draws. The quiz has received immense patronage among the student community, teachers, parents and Educational Institutions and has become part of the extra-curricular agenda of schools across the country. Today the event is held in 12 cities across India.
Started in 2000, exclusively for rural schools across Karnataka Tata Consultancy Services in association with the Department of Information Technology, Govt. of Karnataka, came together to plan, what would be India's first Rural IT quiz and a fantastic rural education initiative.
This school initiative is an effort to spread awareness, and create comfort levels about IT at the grassroots level. From 32,000 participants in the year of introduction the quiz has been growing in popularity every year and reached over 1.2 million children in 2007.
