Tata Consultancy Services has pioneered school outreach programs for nearly two decades. After supporting several schools and associations individually the company decided to create a few properties that are annual and caters to not just the children but involves the other stake holders as well, such as the teacher and the school.

These initiatives underline the commitment of TCS towards grooming the future generations of this nation to be ready to harness the demand that India will face as we progress towards being the knowledge capital of the world.

InsighT
InsighT is an IT camp for students of Class 11. The camp aims to provide an overview of skills required in the IT industry. It is therefore a blend of technical as well as soft skills. The camp is designed for 72 hours of interaction spread over 20 days. Typically the sessions last 4 hours a day with 3 hours devoted to technical skills and 1 hour for soft skills. Students are divided into teams of four or five students and each team will have access to one computer.

The course is designed to meet the Board requirements. The CBSE Board prescribes C and C++ for Class 11 and 12. The ISC Board prescribes Java. Irrespective of the Board, the technical component aims to reinforce the syllabus prescribed. The non Computer Science streams cover basics of VB and HTML. However, the exact syllabus will be ascertained from the school. Faculty will comprise of Associates of Tata Consultancy Services, with technical and soft skills. Students will make presentations on the project work they have done during the camp, on the last two days of the camp. Judges will award prizes to:

  • The Best Technical Team
  • The Most Innovative Team
  • The Best Team work and
  • The Best Presentation skills
All the participants will receive participant certificates.

Tata Consultancy Services - EW Teachers' Award
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) together with EducationWorld (estb. 1999) instituted a Teachers award for 'Innovations in the Classroom' in 2005. The award honours two National level winners - in the primary/middle and secondary school categories. The Teacher Awards is TCS' way of appreciating innovative and creative techniques of teaching.

TCS believes that Teachers of today will groom the generation to come. The quality of teaching learning in the classroom will determine the innovative thinkers of tomorrow. We wish to invest in the future and reward those who are making that happen. Winners of the TCS-EW Teachers Award 2006 were given handsome prizes - laptop computers and cash amongst other awards.

Rural IT Quiz
Started in 2000, exclusively for rural schools across Karnataka Tata Consultancy Services in association with the Department of Information Technology, Govt. of Karnataka, came together to plan, what would be India's first Rural IT quiz and a fantastic rural education initiative.

This school initiative is an effort to spread awareness, and create comfort levels about IT at the grassroots level. From 32,000 participants in the year of introduction the quiz has been growing in popularity every year and reached over 1.2 million children in 2007.

TCS IT Wiz
TCS IT Wiz is India's biggest IT quiz for schools, started in 1999, celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2008. The quiz has become a premier quiz property in India for school children. The TCS IT Quiz was launched in Bangalore in 1999 and today reaches 12 Indian cities and over a 1000 schools across the country.
